UPDATE: The Indian Premier League official handle on Twitter tweeted to confirm that the medical issue with Edmeades was Postural Hypotension, and he is stable after receiving timely medical attention. Mr.Charu Sharma will continue the proceedings at the IPL 2022 auction.
Everyone was super excited for the 2022 IPL Auction which happens to be a 2-day event taking place in ITC Gardenia in Bangalore. We were barely through 25 names in the mega auction when something super unfortunate took place, live for millions of fans across the world to see. The IPL 2022 Auction auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed in the middle of a player auction.
We were in the middle of the third set at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, one which took the longest time because it involved the most expensive players – the all-rounders. To see who all were sold and for how much during the first day of the event, check out our IPL 2022 LIVE blog here. When the unfortunate event took place, Edmeades was in the middle of the auction of Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga.
Auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapses
There was an interesting bidding battle taking place for Hasaranga. Sunrisers and Punjab Kings were after him and then, Royal Challengers Bangalore entered the bidding for the spinner. Eventually, the bidding reached 10.75 Crore when we heard the sound of mics thumping and we saw Edmeades falling off the stage and on to the ground, to the shock of everyone at the venue.
Come to think of it, Edmeades was a little bit off his game today as he made a few mistakes on the mic and surely wasn’t at his 100%. However, none would’ve seen this coming. While everyone started speculating about what happened and whether or not it could’ve been a heart attack/cardia arrest, Gautam Bhimani cleared the air on social media.
