Without any fuss, drama and big star players, Sunrisers Hyderabad has become one of the most loved and consistent sides in the Indian Premier League. When you look at other sides on paper, SRH doesn’t always look like a better team, but they way they have gelled as a team and held their nerve in every pressure situation is commendable. Let’s not forget that the captaincy and leading by example of David Warner/Kane Williamson during these years have been exemplary.

Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL 2019 team preview

This year, they are without Shikhar Dhawan, but they will be boosted towards the end of March with the return of David Warner, who returns after missing IPL 2018 with a 1-year suspension over the ball tampering saga. However, batting hasn’t been their only strong suit as the team has shown an ability to defend low total son a regular basis. Say the batting doesn’t click, the bowling will clean up. In case the batting does put up a good show, an SRH victory becomes almost certain. Once again, SRH is a big favourite as we move into IPL 2019.

There aren’t a lot of changes to talk about for SRH. They released some of their players who weren’t doing too good or weren’t played a lot last year, and purchased only three this year, of which Wriddhiman Saha was purchased back. They have a wide array of bowlers capable of consistently defending sub-140 scores. While Rashid Khan is a certain starter in every match possible, Mohammad Nabi and Shakib al Hasan are both all-rounder but overseas options.

However, chances are slim of all these playing in the same game, as Billy Stanlake also performed in IPL 2018. Harsh as it may sound, arguably one of the world’s best all-rounders, Shakib may be seated through most of this competition, more so once Warner returns and Rashid-Williamson-Warner lock up their spots in the team. Nabi would be my main choice of the 4th overseas player.

While everyone criticized SRH for dropping Shikhar Dhawan, I loved the move as they acquired Vijay Shankar, Shahbaz Nadeem and Abhishek Sharma in his place. Remember, Nadeem ended as the highest wicket-taker in the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy, while Vijay Shankar has got international exposure where he showed really good temperament.
