Are they short of talent? Certainly not. Are they being led by the wrong person? Doesn’t look like. They were joined in IPL 2018 by Gautam Gambhir, someone who lifted the trophy twice with Kolkata Knight Riders. He then stepped down to let the 24-year old Shreyas Iyer become the new captain. With the likes of Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Sandeep Lamichhane and others, we can’t even say they are short of exciting, young talents.
Those names are what excites you the most about the DC squad. Prithvi Shaw opening the batting, Shreyas Iyer at #3, Rishabh Pant later, and then a new U-19 star in Manjot Kalra being added to the squad too, who scored a century in the U-19 final against Australia. To add to these, they have one of the best T20 all-rounders in Chris Morris, while the bowling is led by Sandeep Lamichhane, a couple of overseas pacers and of course, the evergreen Amit Mishra, who owns a record 3 IPL hat-tricks.
However, Capitals failed the IPL 219 Auction according to me. Ishant Sharma, REALLY?!! The only positive there was getting the IPL run-machine, Shikhar Dhawan. However, they gave away three high quality players for him, including Vijay Shankar, who has developed as a cricketer and matured over the last year, with a lot of national team experience as well. Next, they also gave away Shahbaz Nadeem, who was nothing but the highest wicket-taker in the recent 2018-19 Ranji Trophy.

My overseas players picks for Delhi are Colin Munro, Trent Boult, Sandeep Lamichhane and Chris Morris. Colin Ingram could also get a few games if his namesake doesn’t too well at the top. Overall, I believe they had a better squad last year. Remember, they released the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Daniel Christian too. Regardless, keep following ReadScoops.com for all updates on Delhi Capitals in IPL 2019.
