India Flatten Sri Lanka in 1st ODI – Best Tweets

Winning the toss, Indian captain Virat Kohli elected to field first. Of course, we knew the reason behind that as India and Kohli himself excel in chases.

The morale in the Sri Lankan camp would’ve taken a beating after this encounter, as India wrapped up this game within 30 overs and they batted with ease. We at Read Scoops bring to you the highlights of the 1st ODI, along with the best tweets from this game.

Dhawan and Kohli put up an unbeaten partnership of 197

Sri Lanka began pretty well, with Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka scoring at a brisk pace and putting up an opening partnership of 74. Gunathilaka was dismissed after a good start while Dickwella carried on to another 50+ score.

However, it was a huge collapse after that, with Sri Lanka going from 139/1 to a pathetic 216. The scorecard looked pretty bad:

On return to the Sri Lankan ODI squad, Thisara Perera got a brilliant yorker and was dismissed for a duck:

Chamara Kapugedara hasn’t been having a good time in international cricket either:

Talking about bad outings, Rohit Sharma hasn’t put up a big score in a while and this time was no different, getting out for just 4(13), and it was a horrible way to get out, as Rohit’s bat got stuck in the ground, fell out of his grip and he was adjudged run out.

However, Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli didn’t want to miss out against this mediocre bowling attack. They built a steady partnership and once they were settled, there was no stopping them. The duo put up 197* runs together and 25 fours and 3 sixes between them.

It’s not very often that Virat Kohli plays second fiddle in a partnership but that’s exactly what happened today as Kohli turned the strike around while Dhawan was playing a masterclass innings at the other end. Today, Kohli went past Virender Sehwag’s tally of ODI runs; he now has 8,339 runs in just 190 matches!

MS Dhoni fans would’ve been happy to see him in action, as he only plays the shorter formats now:
