Every IPL franchise has been allowed up to four names that they can retain ahead of the IPL 2022 Auction and today being the deadline for the IPL 2022 retention lists for the tournament, we’ve got all the names pouring in. For instance, Mumbai Indians also announced their list of four and the biggest surprise of the exclusions was that of star Team India all-rounder, Hardik Pandya.
Hardik has been one of India’s leading all-rounders over the last 4-5 years across formats but the last year and more has been poor for him, form wise. He hasn’t bowled much in the last 18 months and to make things worse, he’s barely got any runs. The recent 2021 T20 World Cup was also disappointing for him and finally, he’s been left out of his team’s IPL 2022 retention list.

The four names on the retention list for Mumbai Indians were captain Rohit Sharma, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, middle order batsman Suryakumar Yadav and of course, their long-time loyal servant, Kieron Pollard. There was no place for Hardik in the list and his elder brother Krunal Pandya was also also left out of the list, which sparked rumours of a retirement on social media.
While Mumbai has every right to buy back the Pandya brothers from the IPL 2022 Auction, we think this could be the end of their MI journey. However, with two new franchises having entered the league, it’s likely that they will both be picked into the same side. If rumours are to be believed, they should be targetted by the Ahmedabad franchise.
