Gurinder Sandhu Bags BBL Hat-trick!

Covid-19 has been poking its nose in the affairs of the ongoing Big Bash League 2021/22, cancelling a few games and revamping the squads of a few teams as well. It’s been tough for everyone involved but the benefactors as those cricketers who were sitting on the bench and in the reserves, and are now right in the middle of the action in BBL 11.

One of those players who hasn’t been a regular part of his BBL franchise this season has been pacer Gurinder Sandhu who played today against Perth Scorchers and proved his worth as well. He was brilliant right though his spell of 4 overs in this rain-reduced game of 18 overs a side. He ended up picking a BBL hat-trick today!.

Gurinder Sandhu bags BBL hat-trick

Perth Scorchers batted first and while they are on the top of the BBL 11 points table with only one loss prior to this game, this one turned out to be a disaster batting innings for them. They weren’t bale to get away with the bat, during the powerplay and power surge as well. Each time they tried to up the scoring rate, they lost wickets in this batting effort.

And Sandhu enjoyed each and every minute of the bowling innings for Sydney Thunder today. Kurtis Patterson was his first victim in the 5th over while his next one was Colin Munro who was dismissed on 11.6. Bowling the 16th over, Sandhu struck with the first ball of the new over and not many knew that he was on a hat-trick, as the last wicket came on the final ball of an over he bowled a while back.

It was Aaron Hardie who was dismissed on the first ball of his final over while the hat-trick ball turned out to be a successful one as well as he dismissed England’s Laurie Evans. Even the batsman may have not known he was facing a hat-trick ball, so he played a reckless shot. With the Covid-19 protocols of no physical contact in celebrations, we couldn’t even see a grand celebration from Sandhu.

Third domestic hat-trick for Sandhu

When he picked up that wicket of Evans, it turned out to be not his first or second, but his third hat-trick in domestic cricket. However, this would’ve been one of his best and he won’t forget this night any time soon. Eventually, Thunder went on to win the game and Sandhu was deservingly awarded the player of the match award!

Post this game, Thunder will lose Sam Billings but they’ve got many others performing now. In fact, Tanveer Sangha will find it difficult to slot back into the side with Sandhu doing well in today’s outing against the Scorchers.
