Owned by Bombay Sports Limited in association with Cricket Canada, the first ever edition of the Global T20 Canada took place back in 2018 in King City, Ontario. From there, another successful edition took place the next year, this time in Brampton, Ontario. As per the rules, four local Canadian players featured in every team, with as many as six teams playing the first edition, which is the same today as well.
After a hiatus of nearly four years, the GT20 Canada league is back again, and everyone’s set for the 2023 edition, which will be played in Brampton once again, this time between 20 July – 6 August 2023. The tournament has shown a lot of potential in the completed editions so far and it can grow to be an important tournament on the country’s cricket calendar. Today, we’ll talk about past GT20 Canada winners…
GT20 Canada 2023 is here and two new teams have been introduced in Mississauga Panthers and Surrey Jaguars, replacing Edmonton Royals and one of the past GT20 Canada winners, Winnipeg Hawks. This time, each franchise will include three Canadian national side players, as well as three other emerging Canadian players, along with several international stars from across the globe.

The first edition of Global T20 Canada was won by Vancouver Knights in 2018, beating West Indies B rather comfortably in the final. The next year, it was the now defunct Winnipeg Hawks team that won the title, beating Vancouver in the final once again, so it’s safe to say the latter has been the most consistent side in this tournament. The tournament was introduced to raise up Canadian cricket, and bring local players to the limelight, as well as players from other associate cricketing nations. The motive was definitely achieved when you see the Man of the Match awards in the two finals so far, going to Canada’s Saad Bin Zafar for an all-round effort, and then to UAE’s Shaiman Anwar for nearly scoring a century in the GT20 Canada 2019 final.
Global T20 Canada 2023 returned after 4 years and the tournament followed a round-robin and playoffs format, clashing with a couple of international tours and the 2023 Lanka Premier League. Montreal Tigers were crowned GT20 Canada 2023 winners after beating Surrey Jaguars in a well fought final, winning by 5 wickets on the final ball of the game.
