A total of 35 Australian players were a part of the IPL 2021 Auction final list of 292 players. The auction on 18th Feb began and while it was a quiet first few minutes, the heat only began once the big name of Glenn Maxwell was drawn out of the hat. Known as the Big Show, Maxi has been brilliant in the IPL over the years but there were questions about a decline in his career.
In fact, it was way back in IPL 2014 when he smashed 540+ runs in the season and since then, he’s just been a quiet observer in this league. We didn’t expect there to be toooo much of interest in Maxwell especially after his IPL 2020 performance were he barely managed to get a little above 100 runs in 13 games played in the season.
However, we were super wrong as the bidding began and it was fierce bidding between several franchises. Kolkata showed interest, Bangalore showed interest and Chennai showed the most interest. From a base price of INR 2 Crore, the numbers kept rising and rising and rising as the eventual fight went on hard between CSK and RCB.

Chennai Super Kings seemed desperate to have him and the main reason for this is his recent form. Though he had a poor IPL 2020, he was brilliant for Australia in the international series prior to that. Even after the IPL 2020 season, he had a great time in the BBL 10 season where he led Melbourne Stars to a great season, where he performed with both bat and ball.
Here, he ended up getting the highest bid from Royal Challengers Bangalore, collecting a whopping INR 14.25 Crore bid which is massive compared to what his countryman Steve Smith got, going to Delhi Capitals for only INR 2.2 Crore. We hope RCB brings a change in fortunes for Maxwell and Maxwell also brings some more luck to this side!
