See Giant No Ball in 2023 Abu Dhabi T10 League

Every day is a new day in cricket and every day, we get to see something that you may have no witnessed before. Today, it was witnessed at the 2023 Abu Dhabi T10 League where a bowler delivered one of the biggest no balls you may have ever seen in all your years of watching this game. It happened in today’s The Chennai Braves vs Northern Warriors match in Abu Dhabi.

Batting first, Northern Warriors put up 106/3 in their quota of 10 overs, headlined by a fifty by Hazratullah Zazai. Then, it was the time for the Braves batsmen to go out and chase down the target, but they were reduced by a couple of wickets early in the chase. And in the 5th over of the chase, was the no ball that wasn’t missed by anyone, neither the commentators, nor teammates, nor those watching on TV.

Abhimanyu Mithun no ball creates havoc

It was former Indian cricketer Abhimanyu Mithun who was trusted to bowl the 5th over and he picked up the crucial wicket of Bhanuka Rajapaksa on his second delivery of the over. Next walked in Charith Asalanka from Sri Lanka as well, and Mithun delivered a perfect yorker to get him out on his first delivery, only to realise the umpire had called a NO BALL.

Everyone was upset to hear the no ball call because that spell of two wickets in successive balls would’ve turned the match on its head. Instead, Asalanka was given the chance to bat again and face a free hit too. And when the replays were showed, everyone was shocked to see that Mithun had delivered one of the biggest no balls we’ve seen in recent cricketing history.

One of the on-air commentators joked saying that, “Ohh, not by much though, that’s lucky,” which was obviously a sarcastic comment. Another commentator spoke about how this was one of the biggest illegal deliveries he’s ever seen. And we agree with that too, with thoughts immediately going back to Mohammad Amir’s fixing scandal many years ago in a Test series against England.

Despite the no ball, Mithun finished with figures of 2/11 in his 2 overs which is absolutely amazing returns for the T10 format of the game. However, it’s likely that this no ball incident may be looked into because we don’t think these kind of mistakes are even possible, especially at this highest level of the game. Either way, we hope it’s not got anything to do with corruption in the game of cricket.

It turned out to be a very crucial no ball in the context of the game, because Braves went on to win with only 2 balls to spare, and Asalanka went on to get an unbeaten 22* and guided his side home. A video of the Abhimanyu Mithin no ball was doing rounds on social media as well, which you can see in a tweet we found below:
