India vs Scotland in the ongoing 2021 T20 World Cup was going to be an important match for both the sides as Scotland doesn’t usually get to play such top Test-playing nations and for India, it was another game where they had to win big to keep their hopes up in the tournament. In this game, India won the toss and elected to field first.
Put in to bat, Kyle Coetzer and George Munsey opened the batting for the Scots and while the captain Coetzer was bowled off a slower delivery from Jasprit Bumrah, the latter was playing some sensational shots in the powerplay. One particular over where he shone was the 4th over against the bowling of Ravichandran Ashwin.
Ashwin began the over well with three consecutive dots against Munsey but then was hit for a boundary off the fourth ball. As he first went in to deliver the fifth ball of the over, he stopped in his tracks as he saw Munsey switch his stance for a reverse sweep. If you’ve seen Munsey play in this tournament, you’ll see a lot of his runs against spinners come off this shot.

When Ashwin finally delivered the fifth ball, Munsey went for the reverse again, unperturbed with Ashwin’s stalling of the game a few seconds ago. He picked the gap and got another boundary, now consecutive ones in the over. The spinner ran in to bowl the final ball and Munsey was brave enough to go for yet another reverse sweep this one looping over the short third man fielder for another boundary.
He got 12 runs off the over but more importantly, he’ll remember that he got two consecutive boundaries off reverse sweeps and in the over, three consecutive boundaries against Ravi Ashwin. Scotland’s start soon deteriorated as Munsey perished to Mohammed Shami and before we knew it, Scotland were 29/4. However, Munsey created a memory he won’t be forgetting anytime soon!
