Fawad Alam Returns to Test Side After 11 Years

It was in 2007 when left-handed batting all-rounder Fawad Alam made his international debut for Pakistan in the shorter formats, beginning with the ODI format against Sri Lanka. Two years later, he played the same opponent when he made his Test debut in 2009. However, that turned out to be a very short stint indeed, playing only 3 Tests for Pakistan over a short period of time.

One wold argue that he deserved a longer run that just 3 Tests, especially sine he managed a good score of 168 in those games, with a batting average of 40+ and no real reason to have got the axe thereafter. However, Alam was ghosted and ghosted hard as he never got to represent Pakistan for over a decade, until he got the good news this morning, in Southampton.

Being in the squad for the Test series against England, he missed the 1st Test but was picked today for the 2nd Test as Pakistan chose an additional batsman over Shadab Khan, ending a 11-year wait since Alam last played a Test for Pakistan. He’ll be looking to impress so that the selectors have no further reason to drop him.

Alam’s continuous exclusion from the national side has been one of the biggest mysteries in the Pakistan cricket circuit over the years but that will all be put to rest now. If you look at his domestic record, he’s one of the best in the business, with 34 FC centuries in 130+ matches, including a massive best score of 296*!

Let’s add to that slow left arm bowling in case it’s ever required and he’s actually a complete player, one that Pakistan has missed over the years. For more updates on this Test series and how well Fawad does in this game, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
