WI vs IRE 2020 – 2nd ODI Fantasy Preview

It’s a major move for a small cricketing country to go on to tour a regular test-playing nation. That’s what Ireland is doing at the moment as they’ve embarked on an international tour which will take place between 4-19 January 2020. They will be up against T20 world champions West Indies who are fresh off a tour of India in the last month of 2019.

The tour began with the ODI series and after posting a below par total, Ireland succumbed to a 5-wicket loss as the hosts easily chased down the target. Ireland will need to buck up in the 2nd ODI which will be played at the same ground in Barbados before we move to Grenada. Numbers

  • Head to head in last 4 games, West Indies leads 4-0.
  • West Indies have won 14 of their 32 ODIs at this ground.
  • Alzarri Joseph – 8 wickets in just 2 games at this ground.
  • Hayden Walsh Jr – only 2 wickets in 4 games in India.

West Indies

Jason Holder has been rested for the first couple of ODIs and new skipper Kieron Pollard should definitely be in your fantasy side because he has matured as a batsman in recent months, while he likes bowling from time to time as well. In 3 ODIs in his career so far, Brandon King has only managed a best score of 39 but he’s playing at home now and will be more comfortable after a brilliant CPL 2019, so I’ll pick him.

With the ball, Alzarri Joseph started the series with a 4-fer and incidentally, his previous ODI at this ground also saw him picking up a 4-fer. However, I’ll skip him and choose Sheldon Cottrell who has been better in recent months and also has 7 scalps in 2 games here. Leg-spinner Hayden Walsh Jr also had a brilliant CPL 2019 and though he had a quiet time in India, it’s his time to shine again.

Ireland

Former captain William Porterfield has just one 50+ score since June last year and I’ll skip him fro my fantasy side. Instead, I’ll pick Andy Balbirnie the new skipper who has been consistent with the bat, including 5 tons in 65 ODIs for Ireland. With the ball, Tim Murtagh is out but young Mark Adair has been very impressive since his international debut, with 14 wickets in his last 10 games.

The main player for your PlayerzPot (Use Code “READ1234”) fantasy team must be Paul Stirling who only scored 15 in the last game but he’s one of their best batters, with experience of playing in leagues all around the world; he also bowls once in a way. Though he only managed 5 with the bat in the last game, Simi Singh picked 2 wickets and we always should pick players with all-round abilities.
