Over 50s WC 2020 – NZ-50 vs WI-50 Fantasy Preview

This is probably going to be one of the most talked about cricketing events of 2020 so far. Being hosted in South Africa, we’re all set for the Over 50’s World Cup 2020 where you’ve guessed it right – only those above 50 years of age are eligible to represent their country. The tournament has a 45-over format and Match 2 on the opening day will be between New Zealand 50s and West Indies 50s at Cape Town.

A total of 12 participating teams will be grouped into two pools of 6 teams each and the action will take place between 11-24 March 2020. As per this Cape Town pitch report, we’re not expecting much support to spinners and I’d advise to be careful in the first round of fantasy games for this tournament. Numbers

  • Andrew Dale – 23 centuries in his First Class career.
  • David Leonard – 112 wickets in 43 First Class games.
  • Sudesh Dhaniram – last played for USA at the age of 45.

New Zealand 50+

Opening the batting for the Kiwis is Andrew Hore and Adrian Dale and while the former had one FC century, Dale is one of the most experienced players of his time, with 300+ List A games to his name and 200+ FC games as well. Dale is a must pick because he bowls as well, while Neil Ronaldson and Mason Robinson could also assist in the batting, while there’s not much details on either of these players.

Another pretty experienced player in the squad is Richard Petrie who played 12 ODIs for New Zealand in his younger days, having also picked 12 wickets in those games. While he doesn’t have great batting stats, he can give the ball a good tonking as well. A good bowling options could be David Leonard who has a best FC bowling performance of 6/67 while also having 3 FC fifties to his name in the early days.

Windies 50+

From the Windies side, Sudesh Dhaniram should be one of the first picks in your MyFab11 (sign-up with code “READAD46“) fantasy team because he has all-round abilities and it was only 8 years ago that he retired, with 4 FC centuries to his name. Along with him Fared Hosein is someone worth considering for your NZ-50 vs WI-50 fantasy team because he’s an all-rounder and can be a big hitter when needed.

Another player who played for the USA earlier in the day was Zamin Amin who might come handy with the ball in this tournament while the 56-year old can also hold his own with the bat if required off him. Someone with World Cup experience is Ishwar Maraj who represented Canada at the 2003 World Cup and he could be worth picking, with 1 fifty in his 6 appearances for Canada when he was younger.
