IPL 2019 Match 35 – KKR vs RCB Fantasy Preview

When Kolkata Knight Riders began this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), they seemed unstoppable, but suddenly their weaknesses have been exposed and the team has only 4 wins in 8 games, putting them at #6 on the points table. However, they are now hosting Royal Challengers Bangalore, a down-and-out team which means this is their best chance to get a win and some confidence.

As for Bangalore, they should come out with more confidence now as they have nothing to lose. With only 1 solitary win in 8 matches in IPL 2019, they are virtually knocked out of the competition and can now only play party spoilers. KKR and RCB have shared a brilliant rivalry over the years, with the former leading the H2H count. Keep reading for our complete PlayerzPot (Use Code “READ1234”) fantasy preview of the game…

IPL 2019 Match 35 - KKR vs RCB Fantasy Preview

Form (recent first)

  • KKR: L L L W W
  • RCB: L W L L L

Stats

  • Andre Russell has hit 30 sixes in IPL 2019 so far.
  • 43, 50, 0, 82 – Chris Lynn’s last 4 innings this year.
  • Since IPL 2015, Umesh Yadav conceded at 12 rpo in the death overs.
  • Since IPL 2015, Tim Southee conceded at 11.6 rpo in the death overs.
  • Since IPL 2015, Mohammed Siraj conceded at 10.7 rpo in the death overs.

Kolkata

There’s one similarity in these two teams – both haven’t been picking up enough of wickets. Shockingly, KKR’s highest wicket taker this year is Piyush Chawla, who only has 6 wickets in 8 games thus far in IPL 2019. Pick Chawla for his experience and for the fact that he has been better this year than Sunil Narine (5 wickets) and Kuldeep Yadav (3 wickets), and even their strike bowler Prasidh Krishna (2 wickets).

6 wickets and 312 runs this year means that Andre Russell becomes a must-pick, but has he been losing steam in recent games? Is he still worth making your captain? I’d like to differ. While he has been one of their star performers, it’s time to take to focus off him for a while. After a slow start to the season, Chris Lynn seems to have found his mojo. He is a worthy contender for your captain or vice-captain today.

Bangalore

It’s hip-hip hurrah time for RCB fans as Dale Steyn is now all set and ready for selection. Is he rusty? Is he fit? Can he be the same Steyn from 5 years back? We don’t know, but RCB fans will hang on to every hope they have after their horrid performance in IPL 2019 so far. I’d pick Steyn and Yuzvendra Chahal as my bowlers, while I’ll also have all-rounders Marcus Stoinis and Moeen Ali in my team. No one’s forgetting Ali’s fifty from the last game, prior to turning the ball square in Mumbai.

Moeen is my captain and I’m stuck between choosing another RCB all-rounder, or stick to Lynn as vice-captain. In the reverse fixture, RCB made 205/3 and were still unable to defend, which goes to show how both teams have a bad bowling line-up. Because of higher chances of batting since he opens the innings, pick Parthiv Patel as your wicket-keeper over Dinesh Karthik.
