ICC T20 WC Qualifier 2019 – PNG vs SCO Fantasy Preview

It’s proving to be a very tight tournament so far even though we’re barely at the beginning of it. We’re talking about the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier happening in UAE and we have a few more matches scheduled today. In Match 14 of the tournament, table toppers PNG find themselves in action yet again. They have 2 games and 2 victories so far, putting them on top of the Group A points table.

They are now up against Scotland who are one of the tournament favourites. It was surprising that they lost their opening fixture to Singapore but they hit back hard with a win against Kenya, giving them one win in 2 games thus far. Scotland begin as favourites in this encounter. Keep reading for our complete PlayerzPot (Use Code “READ1234”) fantasy preview of the PNG vs SCO game…

Numbers

  • Head to head in T20Is, these two teams play for the first time.
  • PNG – 17th in the ICC T20 Rankings.
  • Scotland – 11th in the ICC T20 Rankings.
  • Assad Vala – 103 runs, 4 wickets in 2 games this tournament.
  • Callum Macleod in 2 games this tournament – 30, 44.

Papua New Guinea

Less than a month ago, Assad Vala smashed a century against Namibia in an ODI and the PNG captain is an ideal all-rounder who you can’t miss in your fantasy team. He has scores of 53* and 48 so far this tournament, to go with a best of 3/19 with the ball, He can be your captain or vice-captain for sure. Talking about all-rounders, Charles Amini is a good pick too, even though he has under-performed with 2 runs and 2 wickets in 2 games.

In his last 5 games for PNG, Tony Ura has a lowest score of 28 and a best of 71 which he got in the last game against Namibia. Prior to that, he scored 33* and he is a must have, even though he’s only a batsman. Skip wicket-keeper Kiplin Doriga as he has only 39 runs in 4 games since coming to UAE. With the ball, Nosaina Pokana has 17 wickets in his last 10 games including 3 in 2 games in this tournament, so pick him for consistency.

Scotland

First name on my team sheet will be captain and opener Kyle Coetzer. He has scores of 1, 15, 38, 14 and it’s not like him to go so long without a big score, so I’m betting on him today. Along with him, wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Cross makes my fantasy team, again struggling in UAE with 44 runs in 4 games since arrival.

Someone who has been in brilliant form though is all-rounder Richie Berrington who has 3 fifties in the last couple of months for Scotland, along with wickets. He must be in your PlayerzPot (Use Code “READ1234”) fantasy team while Safyaan Sharif is a good choice with the ball who steps up in ICC tournaments. So far, he has 4 wickets in 2 games and 7 overall in 4 games since coming to UAE, never once going wicketless.
