England County 2020 – SUR vs MID Fantasy Preview

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the standard County Championship in England was replaced with the one-time, special Bob Willis Trophy 2020 where the usual 18 teams are in participation, but for a smaller season. In Round 1, we have a number of matches lined up and one of them is between Essex and Kent which we’ve previewed as well and you can read it here.

Another match that kicks off simultaneously at a different venue will see Surrey County in action and they’ll be pitted up against Middlesex, which promises to be an exciting encounter. As usual, let’s give preference to those player who have international experience. Keep reading for our complete PlayerzPot (Use Code “READ1234) fantasy preview of the SUR vs MID game…

Surrey County

Those who were part of the recent England test squad may be rested and those would include Ollie Pope, Rory Burns, and Sam Curran. Similarly, some players are with the current England ODI squad including Jason Roy, Tom Curran, and Reece Topley, so DON’T pick any of them. We’re expecting Ben Foakes to play as their wicket-keeper and since he has some experience playing for England, pick him today.

Another player who was often regarded as one of the best Test bowlers of all time – Morne Morkel – is part of the squad after ending as the team’s highest wicket-taker in the 2019 England County season. Also, we have Scott Borthwick who ended as their top run scorer last season with 705 runs – 2 centuries, 2 fifties. Rikki Clarke contributes with both bat and ball and is the ideal SUR vs MID fantasy captain pick.

Middlesex

Having played for England in the past, Sam Robson should be one of the first picks for your fantasy team today, with 850+ runs in the 2019 county season which included 2 centuries and 4 fifties. Apart from him, we have another good batting talent in the side in Tom Lace who played a part of the 2019 season for Derbyshire but overall, he also managed 800+ runs in that season, so he can be picked too.

38-year old pacer Tim Murtagh is someone who should definitely be in your PlayerzPot (Use Code “READ1234) fantasy team because of all his experience and since he was also their leading wicket-taker last season; he’s not part of the Ireland squad playing England right now. The club has signed Caribbean pacer Miguel Cummins and he might add some value to the team as well.
