He got three starts before getting 68* in the final innings of the West Indies series which means it’s time for a Joe Root big score soon, so the England captain is one of my first picks for this ENG vs PAK 1st Test fantasy team, with 725 runs in 7 previous Tests here. Dom Sibley had a century and fifty but also 2 ducks, so I’d rather pick his opening partner Rory Burns who got a start in every innings, with a lowest score of 15.
Stuart Broad had a point to prove and he did it well after being left out of the first game. He picked a 10-fer in the last game and scored his best with the bat since 2013, so he’s fired up right now. Along with him, Chris Woakes is worth considering – 19 wickets in 4 previous Tests here – he bagged a 5-fer in the last innings against Windies. He won’t be picked by many fantasy teams, with the like of Broad, Anderson and Archer in the side.
Pakistan
A highly rated wicket-keeper, Mohammad Rizwan scored 54* and 100* in the 1st warm-up game and I’d really like to see him being picked ahead of Sarfraz Ahmed as it’s clearly the logical choice here for this 1st Test. Like him, we also saw Azhar Ali getting a big score of 120 before retiring hurt. He’s the new Test captain and has spent considerable time playing for Somerset in these conditions, so pick him for sure!

Fakhar Zaman scored 99 in one of the practice games and while he’s not a test specialist, this guy has a good track record in England, having brilliant scores coming into the ICC 2019 World Cup last year, so he’s worth having in your Nostragamus (Use “READSCOOPS” for Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team if he’s playing. With 10 wickets in 3 bowling innings in the warm-ups, the 17-year old pacer Naseem Shah is going to be a vital part of the team!
