CWC 2019 Match 30 – Pakistan vs South Africa Fantasy Preview

We’ve constantly been talking about opening up the tournament so that the top 4 aren’t cemented at the top and Sri Lanka’s victory over England helped that cause a lot. Now however, we have a game between two teams who are fighting at the bottom, one who has performed way below expectations at the ICC 2019 World Cup and another which has looked extremely demoralized. We’re talking about Match 30 of CWC 2019 – Pakistan vs South Africa.

As per me, Pakistan come into this game as clear favourites even though both teams have managed only 1 win so far. South Africa’s only win in 6 games came against Afghanistan while Pakistan has looked more threatening (at times) with their 1 win in 5 games coming against tournament favourites and hosts, England. The event is over for SA but Pakistan still have a narrow outside chance. Keep reading for our complete Rotobash (sign-up to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy preview of the PAK vs SA match…

Stats

  • This is the first CWC 2019 game at the home of cricket, Lord’s.
  • Pakistan have won 4 of their 11 previous ODIs here.
  • South Africa have won only 1 of their 4 previous ODIs here.
  • In an ODI series between them earlier this year, SA beat PAK 3-2.
  • Rassie van der Dussen – 241 runs in 4 ODI inns vs Pakistan.

Pakistan

It’s clearly going to be a contest between Pakistani pacers and the SA top order. I’ll be picking both of Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz, with the former bagging 13 wickets in 4 games. While Riaz has only 5 wickets so far, he has looked deadly in certain spells, while also helping with the bat when needed. Skip Hasan Ali from your fantasy team as he has managed only 2 wickets so far, while also being far too expensive. Similarly, Shadab Khan hasn’t been very effective in CWC 2019.

With Pakistan playing a 4-bowler attack, pick Mohammad Hafeez. In his last World Cup, the 38-year old has been good with the bat with 155 runs including a fifty and there has been a lot of work load on the bowling front too. SA has a few left-handers in the side and Hafeez may add to his tournament tally of 2 wickets. Babar Azam has 163 runs in this tournament so far but there’s much more potential given his form coming into this tournament. Against SA, Imam ul Haq has 271 runs in 5 ODIs, including 2 fifties and a century.

South Africa

So far in CWC 2019, Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen have been the most reliable batsmen, with 2 fifties each, so I’ll want both of them in my team. Further, van der Dussen has been consistent since the last 8-10 months and even has 3 fifties in 4 ODI innings vs Pakistan, including an outstanding average of 120.5! With just 99 runs in the series so far, Aiden Markram is one who won’t be in too many fantasy teams so picking him good be a valuable one.

With the ball, Kagiso Rabada is looking far from the bowler we saw him being in the recent IPL 2019, where he picked 25 wickets in 12 games. Here, he only has 6 wickets in 6 games and I’ll drop him from my Rotobash (sign-up to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team. Instead, I’ll be picking Imran Tahir (9 wickets) and Chris Morris (9 wickets), especially since the latter can really give it a tonk with the bat as well. If you still have an available all-rounder spot, save it for Andile Phehlukwayo.
