Cricket began in Europe, moved to Australia, opened up in parts of Africa and now, we have some cricketing action in Afghanistan to bring to all of your fantasy cricket lovers. We have the 2020 Provincial Challenge Cup (Grade I) in Afghanistan and here, a total of 8 regional teams will be a part of the action in this ODD tournament, which is scheduled between 13-22 August 2020. The teams are divided into two groups of 4 teams each and this game will take place at the Mis Ainak Cricket Ground in Khost.
In Match 1, it’s Kabul playing Balkh Province and since we’re unsure of possible team combinations, be slightly cautious for the first round but give preference to players who have international experience. One of the most talented young batsmen in this squad is 20-year old Darwish Rasooli who has been making headlines off late and has consistent scores with the bat in the months building up to this tournament, so he should certainly be in your KAP vs BKH fantasy team. With the ball, 18-year old Shafiqullah Ghafari has been regularly among the wickets while representing the Afghanistan U-19 national side; he picked 6/19 vs SA U-19 in Jan this year.
Listed as an all-rounder, Aman Rafiqi doesn’t have too many big scores of late but he’s been good with the ball for Kabul, picking a 5-fer in one of his latest T20 professional games for Kabul a few years ago. Younas Ahmadzai is expected to be one of the leading batsmen for the side, someone who hit an FC century just a couple of games ago for Band-Region in December last year.
Balkh Province
He’s listed as their wicket-keeper for this game, but Mohammad Ibrahim has as many as 9 wickets in his last two FC games, so this is surely someone you don’t want to leave out of your fantasy team for this Afghan ODD Cup 2020 opening contest. Fresh off the U-19 World Cup earlier this year, Farhan Zakhil will be one of the important batsmen having scored 91* in one of the WC games against Australia U-19!
