- Name: Delhi Capitals
- Captain: Rishabh Pant
- Head Coach: Ricky Ponting

- IPL 2021 result: 1st on points table, lost in playoffs
Since the last 2-3 seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL), no team has been as attacking on the field as the Delhi Capitals. Maybe it’s because they have so much of young blood in the team at all times, and they’re using that to their advantage. They made the final a couple off seasons ago but Delhi is still looking for their first ever IPL trophy. This year, they’re joint favourites along with Mumbai to win the IPL 2022 title!

They decided to use their complete IPL 2022 retention quota and they held back Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, and Anrich Nortje. They released their former captain Shreyas Iyer (upon request) and also let go of one of their premier pacers in Kagiso Rabada. But his countryman Anrich Nortje is still in the side and is always a threat considering he’s the fastest bowler in the tournament and pace is always dangerous!
They have plenty of Indian pace bowling options to bowl alongside Nortje and some of them include Chetan Sakariya, Shardul Thakur, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, and Khaleel Ahmed. We’re unsure that they would want more than one Indian pace bowling option because they also have Lungi Ngidi and Mustafizur Rahman as overseas pacers. Given their history over the last few seasons, DC may want to play a couple of overseas pacers.

So it’s most likely going to be Shardul Thakur bowling alongside two overseas quicks because he’s got the most international experience and considering he’s been showing his ability with the bat too, they paid a hefty price for him at the IPL 2022 Auction. They’re likely to play two frontline spinners as well, one being Axar Patel and the other likely to be picked between Kuldeep Yadav and Lalit Yadav.
Lalit was being picked in recent editions because he could bat too but now the side has enough of batting prowess which means Kuldeep could get some game time. Their retained opener Prithvi Shaw will open alongside Australia’s David Warner who was a cheap buy at the auction and one DC would be very proud of. While he had a poor year in IPL 2021 and was dropped right through, he’s one of the top IPL run scorers of all time!
A massive addition to the side is ‘Bison’ Mitchell Marshย who hasn’t had much of an IPL career over the years, with just 21 IPL games to his name. However, he’s in the form of his life and is a good luck charm too, winning the 2021 T20 World Cup with Australia and then winning BBL 2021/22 with Perth Scorchers. But there’s plenty of squad depth and it’s going to be a tussle for a spot in the playing eleven between him and Rovman Powell.
Delhi Capitals – IPL 2022 Betting
They’re listed as joint favourite to win at odds of 6.0 with Betway but it’s never as straightforward as it looks when you see a good squad on paper. This is especially true after a mega auction when teams are playing with new players and new combinations. Add to this, the fact that they topped the IPL 2021 points table but went on to lose both playoffs game after that, so we’re ruling out chances of a victory for them.

Delhi is likely to have Warner and Nortje as their first two overseas players and considering they’ve like the West Indian hitting power in the past with Shimron Hetmyer, they may go in for Rovman Powell over Mitch Marsh. Already having one hardcore pace option in Nortje, the final overseas pick could be Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman. From the overseas lot, Tim Seifert will probably end up seeing the least game time in IPL 2022.
