CWC 2023: Ravindra Jadeja’s ‘Bootwork’ Saves Boundary

At the start of today’s game in the ICC 2023 World Cup, only two teams were unbeaten in the tournament so far and those were India and New Zealand. Today, IND vs NZ faced off in a top of the table clash at CWC 2023, and we all knew it was going to be a cracker of a contest. We saw some brilliant bowling, great batting, and some great efforts in the field as well.

There was a lot of sand and mud in the outfield which meant the Indian fielders were often hesitant to dive in the outfield. We saw many fielders choosing to stand and use their hands or feet, as opposed to the natural instinct of wanting to dive to stop a few runs. And one of the best footwork examples was on display from all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the 43rd over being bowled by Jasprit Bumrah.

CWC 2023: Ravindra Jadeja's 'Bootwork' Saves Boundary

Ravindra Jadeja ‘footwork’ saves boundary in CWC 2023

The game was being played at Dharamshala today, which is also the coldest venue at the CWC 2023. India did put down a few catches including one sitter dropped by Jadeja at point earlier in the innings. He put down the catch of Rachin Ravindra who went on to make 70-odd, so Jadeja had to make up for this miss. And he surely did, with some great outfield work during the rest of the innings.

Jadeja stuck out his boot and saved two runs in what looked like a sure boundary. His teammates appreciated the effort and just a few balls later, Shreyas Iyer also put up a great fielding effort to save three runs on the long on boundary rope. These kind of small moments raise the morale in the team,e specially in big games like those against New Zealand in ICC global events.

It was Jadeja once again in the 46th over, this time fielding at mid-off. He picked up one handed and fired in a direct hit at the striker’s end. Upon checking the third umpire replay, it was shown that Mark Chapman had made his ground, but Jadeja was all over the place and pumped up on the field, making up for the drop earlier in the day.

India doesn’t have a great record against New Zealand in the ICC World Cup and they’re trying to amend things this time around. A major thorn in their side in today’s CWC 2023 game was Daryl Mitchell who scored his 5th ODI century and threatened many times to take the game away from India. However, some good fielding and great death overs bowling kept the Kiwi total below 300 in their 50 overs.
