Regardless of where you go in the world, bowlers will always win you games. The same applies in T20 cricket and in particular, the CSA T20 Challenge which is a regional T20 franchise tournament in South Africa, one level below the SA20 League. This tournament has seen different formats and participating teams since its debut way back in 2004.
Over the years, the competition has seen some amazing bowling performances including quite a few 5-wicket hauls. On this page, we’re going to list down every CSA T20 Challenge 5-wicket haul from 2004 till present day, including the bowler, the team he represented, his final figures, and the date he managed to reach this magical milestone.
The first player to bag a CSA T20 Challenge 5-fer was Arno Jacobs who bagged 5/26 for Warriors in the CSA T20 2007 season, which means it took a couple of years for the first 5-fer in this competition. For those who don’t know, Arno was not a frequent bowler and had only 13 wicket sin 44 professional games, so not many would’ve expected him to make the CSA T20 all 5-fers list.

From there, many well-known bowlers have picked up 5-fers in this tournament over the years, including several who have played international cricket for South Africa. See below for our complete CSA T20 5-wicket hauls list, last updated 10th March 2024, at the start of the 2024 CSA T20 season:

Only two players have gone on to get multiple entries in the CSA T20 5-fers list and they are Vernon Philander and Sisanda Magala. Philander was the first to achieve two (2) 5-fers in this competition but now that he’s retired, Magala will back his chances to take a lead in terms of bowlers who have the most 5-wicket hauls in the tournament.

Only one of the bowlers on this list have gone on to convert their 5-fer into a 6-fer and that’s Beuran Hendricks who bagged 6/29 in 2014 and that remains the only CSA T20 6-wicket haul, and also the best bowling figures in the tournament’s history so far. Baartman’s 5-fer was the best in terms of balls bowled as his 5/14 included only 2.2 overs (14 balls) bowled in the spell.
