We often refer to the Caribbean Premier League as the biggest party in sport and here in this article, you’ll get to know why we say so. In a relatively low scoring innings today, the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots were slowly motoring along until one young batsman smashed five consecutive sixes in the final over of the innings, to get them to a relatively decent first innings score.
We’re talking about the much spoken-about Dewald Brevis from South Africa who first came to the limelight in the last edition of the U-19 World Cup and since then, he’s been getting T20 franchise leagues contracts all across the world. And today at the ongoing CPL 2022, he’s made a mark once again, this time hitting an impressive 5 consecutive sixes in his game against Trinbago Knight Riders today.
Dewald Brevis hits 6, 6, 6, 6, 6
We’ve known about his hitting ability and his talent of being able to access every corner of the ground. Much like his childhood hero AB de Villiers, he’s also referred to as ‘Baby AB’ because his range of shots are nothing less than what Mr.360 himself could pull off. And while he’s yet to launch himself in the international circuit, he’s already making headlines in leagues like the CPL T20.
Brevis came out to bat for the Patriots in the 18th over and when he first faced in the 19th over, he was on 0(1)* and had three balls to face before we went into the final over. Playing again Akeal Hosein, he launched all three of the remaining deliveries out of the ground, taking his score to 18(4)* and hitting three sixes on the trot. Then, he lost strike but certainly didn’t lose momentum after going 6, 6, 6 in the 19th over.
On the other end was Sherfane Rutherford who was set and batting well on 70(47)* before he took strike in the final over, which was to be delivered now by Daryn Dupavillon. He managed to get one out of the screws on the second ball, but the third and fourth were successes for the bowling side as the South African bowler Dupavillon found himself on a hat-trick with two balls to spare in the final over.
Talking about sparing, Brevis was in no mood to spare anyone as he delivered the final two balls of this over over the boundary as well, getting 6, 6 to end the innings and finishing with five consecutive maximums and his score on 30(6)*. And just in case you’re wondering why he’s so highly regarded in franchise cricket across the world right now, check out the way he smashed it all over today at CPL 2022:
Dewald Brevis is a beast – such striking power.

He was all smiles after this incredible knock and even his batting partner Kevin Sinclair at the time would’ve been happy that Brevis managed to get strike and help SKNP get to a fighting total of 163/6. They smashed 69 runs in only the final 3 overs and at one stage, even 125-130 looked like a distant dream for them. We’re hoping to see much more of Brevis in CPL 2022 and other teams in the future too!
