Is It Finally Coming of Age For Mitchell Marsh?

Around a decade ago, a certain Mitchell Marsh made his international debut for Australia and there was a lot of hype around this player, as someone who had a knack or picking up wickets and also known for his destructive big hitting. However, a decade later and over 120 international caps, all he managed was 2 Test centuries and 1 ODI century, and a few wickets under his belt too.

In the domestic circuit, he showed impressive numbers but each time he was given a chance to play in the yellow jersey, the best side of him never came up. Given that he was the younger brother of Shaun Marsh and the son of the legendary Geoff Marsh, there was always plenty of expectations and a weight on his shoulders.

Is It Finally Coming of Age For Mitchell Marsh?

Now however, during the 2021 Australia tour of West Indies, there has been a coming of age for the younger Marsh brother, finally. Playing with a relatively less experienced Aussie side, Marsh is one of the most experienced players in this team and he has been spectacular so far. Prior to this series, Marsh didn’t have a single international fifty in 20 T20 internationals.

However, the tide has turned and he has proved his mettle so far in this series. In 4 T20s so far, Australia is trailing 1-3 and has already lost the series but it’s been a great few games for the younger Marsh brother. In three games so far, the 29-year old all-rounder has scored 3 fifties and picked up 6 wickets with the ball as well.

He has scores of 51, 54, 9 and 75 in the series so far with the bat. While it’s been a career-defining series with the bat for him, the 4th T20I in particular was a brilliant one, where he scored his T20I career best with the bat and then followed it up with a career best T20I bowling performance as well, picking up 3/24 with the ball.

It’s not too late in his career but this definitely seems to be a turning point for him. Marsh has struggled with injuries over the years and while he’s 100% fit, he’s making hay as of now. He’s always been a very exciting cricketer and we at Read Scoops are looking forward to seeing more such contributions from him in games to come.
