In England, the 2021 Vitality T20 Blast has kicked off and it’s been a great ride already. We’ve seen big hitting, we’ve seen 200+ scores and we’ve seen a flurry of wickets as well. The most recent round last night saw multiple games being played and one of the top games of the night was a South Group one of Kent vs Middlesex, which was scheduled at Canterbury.
Batting first, Kent recovered after losing 4 really quick wickets and managed to put up 178/8 after lower order contributions of 64 runs each from Jack Leaning and Jordan Cox. Eventually, Middlesex wasn’t able to chase the score down and Kent recorded a 16-run victory, but the highlight came from the losing side, with one of their spinners picking up a hattrick!
We’re talking about Australia’s Chris Green who is one of the most travelled T20 players from the country. He had all his experience and talent on offer last night as he was trusted to bowl the final over for Middlesex, where he ended up taking 4 wickets. Eventually, he ended with career best T20 returns of 5/32!

This includes a hattrick which came off the last three balls of the innings. On 19.4, he got the in-form batsman in Jack Leaning, followed by having Darren Stevens stumped on 19.5 and finally, he got Matt Milnes caught on the last ball of the innings. He ended up a 5-fer but was unfortunate to end on a losing note last night.
Green’s previous career-best T20 performances were 4/14 that he bagged for Guyana Warriors against Barbados in CPL 2019 and 4/34 for Sydney Thunder against Melbourne in the most recent Big Bash League season. He would’ve been pretty pleased with his performance and there’s probably much more to come, with the season having only just started.
“It’s a great accolade and one I’m really proud of. I didn’t know what to bowl. I spoke to Morgs and said ‘should I be greedy and go for the stumps of should I stick to what’s working?’ I decided to stick to that and got lucky,” he said about the achievement.
