Maharashtra vs Saurashtra in the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy final was something we’ve been looking forward to and there were highlights with both bat and ball. To begin with, Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad got a third consecutive century in the VHT 2022 season, including his fourth in five games this season.
However, it wasn’t all about Gaikwad today as the Saurashtra bowlers also had a field day. Coming in to bowl the 49th over of the first innings of the VHT 2022 final, Chirag Jani began with a wicket, and then another, and then another. He went on to claim a much-needed hat-trick and the second hat-trick of this VHT 2022 season as well.
VHT 2022 – Chirag Jani claims hat-trick in final
Saurashtra and Maharashtra were both not the strongest sides on paper but they both managed to make the final of the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy. And we then got to know that it’s not all about the runs and the centuries, but that the bowlers can have a good outing as well. Quite a few great reactions came in for Jani on Twitter as well, after he completed his hat-trick in the penultimate over of the innings.

Less about the wickets but more about the dot balls, because his three dots would’ve reduced at least 8-10 runs from the eventual total that Maharashtra put on the board. He claimed the wickets of Saurabh Navale, RS Hangargekar, and Vicky Ostwal in three consecutive balls to get to this milestone, becoming the second of the season to do so, after Ramandeep Singh for Punjab vs Baroda earlier in the season!

And while a hat-trick is already a great achievement, doing so in a final and on any big stage makes it a much better milestone to celebrate. He hit timber twice and got the first two wickets BOWLED while the third one was full and straight and the batsman missed it, getting an LBW decision in his favour and then getting to run and complete a well-deserved celebration. Eventually, Maharashtra put up 248/9 in their 50 overs and they got a boost towards the end because of three consecutive boundaries in the final over. However, they don’t have the best of bowling attacks and defending such a total is surely going to be a tough task.
