Cheteshwar Pujara Hits 3 Consecutive County Centuries!

Prior to the start of the IPL 2022 season, Team India had a couple of Test series to play out against South Africa and before that, New Zealand. In both the series, veteran middle order batsman and one of India’s most reliable one over the years too, Cheteshwar Pujara, was struggling through a poor run of form.

It was so bad that he had a couple of ducks and many small scored, with just one or two halfway decent knocks. Him along with Ajinkya Rahane had a string of poor scores and by the end of the Test season, many cricket fans and experts predicted that it’s the end of the line for both these veteran Test cricketers. While Rahane hasn’t got runs since then, Pujara is making a noise in England right now!

Cheteshwar Pujara Hits 3 Consecutive County Centuries!

Pujara hits three centuries for Sussex!

While Rahane is representing Kolkata in IPL 2022 and is barely getting any games under his belt, Pujara is making the most of being signed by England County Cricket Club, Sussex. He made a brilliant start to the season with 201* against Derbyshire earlier this month and that marked his return to run scoring, in difficult conditions that too.

But he surely wasn’t done there as he went on to score a second consecutive century with scores of 109 and 12 in his two innings against Worcestershire later in the month as well. And now, he’s breaking records as he’s gone on to score his third consecutive County century, being the only Indian to have ever done so in England domestic cricket.

Currently, Sussex is taking on Durham in the County Championship Division Two 2022 at the County Ground in Hove. In the 1st innings for Sussex, Pujara went on to plunder another century, ending with 128* at Stumps on Day 2. His knock includes 16 boundaries and he’s currently batting with Pakistan’s Mohammed Rizwan who was their other overseas signing this season.

Both in brilliant form right now, it’s likely that they go on to extend this partnership and build on the 362/5 score they have right now, which includes a 139-run 1st innings lead currently. Sussex will be super happy with this signing and Pujara will be super happy too, as he was short of runs for months and this is exactly what he would’ve needed.

Before travelling to the UK, he played three FC games in the Ranji Trophy 2022 season and he managed to hit a couple of fifties there as well, so he was anyway on the road to recovery. These scores would’ve most likely helped him to prolong his Test career for India but his teammate Rahane however, is unlikely to feature in another Test anytime soon.

The Sussex Cricket official Twitter handle posted when he got to this milestone, with a caption that said ‘another hundred’. He’s back to the Pujara we’ve known to see over the years and we’ll be super happy if this form continues when he plays in whites for Team India as well. See the club’s latest tweet:
