The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) took over as the premier T20 competition in the West Indies back in 2013 and since then, it has become a very important part of the global T20 cricket calendar each year. It hasn’t missed a single season since inception and we’ve seen some really good players emerge from the CPL T20 tournament over time.
T20 is said to be a batsman’s game in particular and today, we’re going to talk about the best batsmen in CPL history over the years. Interestingly because the league failed to attract a lot of global stars in the initial seasons, there aren’t many non-Caribbean players in the top 10 CPL highest run scorers list from start till date. CPL T20 top run scorers list
9 out of 10 players on the CPL top run scorers list currently are West Indian and have played for the national side at some point of time or the other (updated as of 16th August 2023). Leading the pack is the now-retired Lendl Simmons who has been one of the most consistent West Indies 20-over batter in the last many years, keep the top spot even though he missed the CPL 2022 season. 5) Kieron Pollard
There’s never been an doubt about this man’s ability. One of the most destructive all-rounders in the history of T20 cricket, Kieron Pollard owns a lot of records in this format and it’s no surprise that he made it to the CPL top run scorers list too. He has 2,359 runs in 102 games in his CPL career, having represented three CPL franchises in Barbados Tridents, St Lucia Stars, and Trinbago Knight Riders. He has the highest strike rate (148.92) among players on this list and his stats include 12 fifties and one century.
4) Chris Gayle
There’s no T20 tournament in the world that doesn’t have the ‘Universe Boss’ stamp on it. Here in his home T20 league, Chris Gayle scored 2,519 runs in 85 games between 2013-2021, including 13 fifties and a record 4 centuries, with Dwayne Smith being the only other batter to get 4 centuries in the CPL T20 tournament. His highest CPL score as a 62-ball 116 which came against the Patriots in CPL 2019, unfortunately in a losing cause. Gayle represented Jamaica and St Kitts during his CPL career.

3) Andre Fletcher
This wicket-keeper batsman didn’t shine when given a chance at the international level but he’s pummelled loads of runs in the Caribbean Premier League, totalling 2,539 runs in 99 games. He has the joint least number of ducks (only 3) among the players on this top 10 list and has as many as 13 CPL fifties under his belt, to go with a top score of 84*. He’s represented the St Kitts and St Lucia franchises in the CPL so far.
2) Johnson Charles
He may have not had the longest international career but Johnson Charles loves to make it count in CPL T20 every year. Like Pollard, he’s played every season between 2013-2023 and has amassed 2,617 runs in 97 games while playing for almost all CPL franchises including Antigua, Trinidad & Tobago, St Lucia, Barbados, and Jamaica. He’s got 17 fifties in his CPL career and narrowly missed a century once, with a career best of 94*.
1) Lendl Simmons
Like everyone else on this list, Lendl Simmons also played every season of this tournament right from the inception in 2013, before retiring after the CPL 2021 season. He scored 2,629 runs in 93 games and while being the highest run scorer in the CPL, he also holds the record for the most CPL fifties (20). His highest score of 97 came in CPL 2014 and he played for as many as five CPL franchises over the years.
A great knock by Lendl Simmons have got him the Player Of The Match Award in the final match of CPL 2020.
