Birmingham Bears Get Record Score in Vitality Blast 2022

It’s been a few days of records for English cricket. A couple of days ago, Jonny Bairstow scored the second fastest Test century by an Englishman to complete a very unlikely chase in the 2nd Test against New Zealand, where they scored 299/5 in 50 overs. Yesterday, England produced a world record ODI score of 498/4 where three of their top five batsmen went on to get centuries.

Now, we’re taking you to their domestic T20 franchise league where Birmingham Bears were in action in one of the may Vitality T20 Blast 2022 matches scheduled today. They were up against Nottinghamshire on what looked like a great batting pitch. And boy did they make it count, as they went on to score the highest team total in the history of the English T20 competition.

Birmingham Bears scores record 261/2

The kind of total they put up in today’s 2022 T20 Blast game was one that you usually see in Test matches and ODIs. They lost only two wickets in their allotted 20 overs, with two of their top four getting fifties while another of them getting a century as well. Rob Yates and Adam Hose scored 53 and 88 respectively, while their number #3 batsman got a century to propel them to a record score.

Not usually known as one of the strongest squads in the competition and one that can break such records, Birmingham put up 261/4 in today’s game which is not only the highest score in the history of the tournament but it also one of the highest team totals in the history of professional T20 cricket as well. The highest was 278/3 scored by Afghanistan in a T20I against Ireland in 2019.

The hero of the innings was Sam Hain who put up 112 (52)* at a strike rate of 215+ in what was a sizzling innings from start to end. He remained unbeaten and ensured they got to the best score in the T20 Blast, beating the previous best of 260/4 which was scored by Yorkshire in the 2017 T20 Blast competition.

Hain’s innings included 12 fours and 5 sixes while Hose was brilliant at the backend, with 3 fours and 10 sixes as the runs kept flowing at this North Group game at Nottingham. And when the chase began, there was a short period of time when we started to believe that it was going to go down to the wire, with the possibility of us seeing this highest score being beaten in the same game.

Nottinghamshire was given a good start by Joe Clarke who got 86(45) but the minute his wicket went, we knew the shutters were down for the home team. He was supported by Tom Moores who got 40(21) but their efforts were not enough as Birmingham got the win they deserved, ending victorious by 55 runs, bowling out their opponents for 206 after a valiant effort by the latter.
