Now 21 years old, Assam’s Riyan Parag has been among the most talked about cricketers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for a few seasons now. While you can say that the all-rounder is still pretty young, he debuted for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2019 when he was still 17 years old, but he’s not been able to prove his worth and pay back the faith shown by his franchise.
He hasn’t been someone who has been brought in for a few matches here and there, but he’s been played consistently and today after 52 career IPL matches, Parag is still struggling to find his feet in this competition. He’s managed only 2 fifties in his IPL career so far, with a paltry average of only 16.46 and a strike rate of a little above 123. He’s particularly come into the limelight during the IPL 2023 season where he’s failed to contribute to the Rajasthan Royals side, despite getting quite a few chances to prove his mettle. Having also played for the India U19s, everyone’s expected more from this kid, better than scores of 7, 20, 7, 5, and 15* that he’s got in IPL 2023 so far; he hasn’t even bowled in this tournament yet.
