BBL 11: Daniel Sams Takes Stunner on No Ball

Match 7 of the 2021/22 Big Bash League and we’ve already seen some magnificent catches in the tournament being played in Australia. It was only a couple of days ago that we spoke about a screamer being taken by a young Jake Fraser-McGurk and today, it was one of the more experienced players from Sydney Thunder taking a fabulous catch, but it was unfortunately called a no-ball.

BBL 11: Daniel Sams Takes Stunner on No Ball

We’re talking about Daniel Sams who has been one of the better all-round players in the Thunder squad over the last couple of seasons, which also earned him a call-up to the national side. This time however, he wasn’t praised for his batting or bowling but for a stunning boundary catch taken against Melbourne Stars earlier today.

Nathan McAndrew was responsible for bowling the 14th over of the Stars’ innings and Nick Larkin was the batsman facing up to him. The ball turned out to be a high full toss, which was pulled away to deep fine leg where Sams had to track back and take an acrobatic catch, tumbling over and falling down just inches in front of the boundary line.

He threw the ball and began his celebrations but the high full toss was signalled a no ball immediately, and to add insult to injury, the batsmen ran three runs as well. And then, they even had a free hit coming up of the next ball. Eventually, Stars put up 165/4 and Sams had a poor outing with the ball, ending with 0/50 in his 4 overs.
