Asian Games Women’s Cricket: Mongolia Women Bowled Out For 15!

Cricket is making a comeback after a 5-year hiatus in the Asian Games and it’s kicked off in quite some style. While the bigger teams will come into action in the later stages of the tournament, the associate nations are playing some of the initial games. Today, 19th Sep 2023 was the first game of the Asian Games 2023 Women’s Cricket Competition, taking place at Hangzhou, China.

It was Indonesia Women vs Mongolia Women in Match 1 of the tournament and it was turned out to be a completely one-sided game to begin with. Indonesia W batted first and scored 187/4 in their 20 overs, led by Ni Luh Dewi who scored 62(48) while extras were the next best on the scorecard, with Mongolia W giving away 49 extras including 10 no balls, 39 wides, and 1 bye.

Mongolia Women 15 all out

With the ball, Battsetseg Namuunzul took a beating with figures of 1/50 in her four overs for Mongolia W, but she was one of the four bowlers who managed to get a wicket each. Mongolia doesn’t have much experience in international cricket and we expected them to lose, but we weren’t expecting them to be bundled out as cheaply as they eventually were in the chase.

When the Mongolian side came out to bat, it turned out to be a disastrous performance by them, as they were bowled out for 15 runs only, which they managed to achieve in 10 overs. An astonishingly low run rate of 1.50 per over, they witnessed as many as 7 ducks in the batting line up, and their top scorer was opener Batjargal Ichinkhorloo, who made 5 runs in 19 deliveries.

The Indonesia Women bowlers bowled 5 extras including 4 wides, or else there was every chance to have bowled out Mongolia W for an even lower total of 10 or 11. Ni Luh Dewi picked up 2 wickets after her performance with the bat, while the pick of the bowlers on the day was Andriani Andriani who ended with 4/8 in her 3 overs bowled.

Surprisingly though, this total of Mongolia 15 all out is not even the lowest in international women’s T20 games. It’s the second time Indonesia W bowled out an opposition for 15, after doing the same to Philippines W in 2019. Maldives W and Mali W have been bowled out for 6 runs each, both in 2019 itself, which remains the lowest total till date.
