You can call it one of the biggest rivalries in sport but ultimately, they’re all good friends off the field. We’re talking about the Ashes 2021/2 series which just ended between England and Australia and the latter ended the series with a 4-0 victory. However, news reports have come in of players from both teams having to be escorted by police back to bed after a night out of drinking.

We’re talking about veteran pacer James Anderson as well as captain of the English side Joe Root while those from the hosts included Travis Head, wicket-keeper who made his Test debut in the series Alex Carey and another very senior spinner who reached 400 Test wickets in the series, in Nathan Lyon. They had a boozy night out after the fifth and final Test at Hobart.

Ashes cricketers escorted home by police

The five cricketers were spotted in the wee hours of the morning, all in their Test jerseys itself, ending the series with a hard night of alcohol. The hosts won the Test by 146 runs and this incident is said to have happened on Monday morning, The party was in the hotel itself and the police had to ask the cricketers to end it after a complaint of ‘too much noise’.

A video was also spread on social media where the said cricketers were being escorted away by police and in it, while a wall clock in the background indicates the time as 6:30am on Monday morning. That really shows that the party went on for a really long time, and there’s also an official investigation being made into the matter.

The video shows all the five cricketers mentioned on a round table seated and having their beers, along with an unidentified female. The video was taken with all of their names mentioned and the police asked them to end the night, to which they obliged and left the spot, with the beers left at the table itself.

It’s not been a very good tour for England and it’s going to be worse for the two English cricketers in question because they didn’t even have any major reason to celebrate. The English captain Root being a part of this may lead to some trouble while the coaches could get into trouble as well.

As of now, no disciplinary action has been taken as yet but we think that action is not too far away and will be taken soon. On the other hand, we feel for the cricketers as it’s been a long last few weeks away from family and friends and we believe the earned the right to have a small night out.
