Arjun Tendulkar to Play For Goa?!

Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar was 15 years old when he was shocking the world with some brilliant batting and had already pocketed many records while still being in his teens. On the other hand, his son Arjun Tendulkar is already 22 years old and is far from making the national side. He’s in fact yet to even play an Indian Premier League (IPL) game till date.

Last season of the Ranji Trophy, India’s premier first class tournament, Mumbai made the finals and while Tendulkar Junior was in the squad, he didn’t get any game time. It’s simply because of the fact that there’s too much of talent in the Indian domestic circuit, and in Mumbai in particular. And now, we think Arjun has realised that as well…

Arjun Tendulkar to Play For Goa?!

Arjun Tendulkar switches from Mumbai to Goa

If reports we’re reading online are true, then the young left-arm pacer is all set to make a domestic transfer in a bid to represent another region in the domestic competitions. Lack of game time is surely one of the reasons for this move, and playing for a smaller region will definitely give him more chances to display his talent to the national selectors.

The reports suggest that he is requesting for a move to Goa and if it goes through, he will represent them ahead of the next domestic season in India, which include the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and the very historic Ranji Trophy as well. It is said that Arjun has applied for an NoC (No Objection Certificate) with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for the same.

He’s been around since a few years now but Arjun has only played 2 T20s for Mumbai, where he picked up 2 wickets. He’s yet to make his List  and First Class debut and if he plays for a state like Goa, he’s likely to make a debut in the first season itself. Additionally, it will be a big boost to the sport in the state of Goa.

While he played those two T20s in early 2021, he’s spent some time playing for Middlesex 2nd XI in England so he’s got some experience under his belt, which could come handy for a side like Goa. They’ve never done well in major domestic competitions and this added bowling might may see them progress in such tournaments.

“He wanted to play for Goa in the forthcoming season so he approached us. We told him to first get a NoC from MCA which he got today. We will have his fitness and skill test going ahead. Like many players Arjun wanted to play for Goa but a process will be followed before we pick him,” said Vipul Phadke, Secretary of Goa Cricket Association (GCA).

If he does manage to make the transfer, he’ll be seen a little bit more on the circuit and we may even see him making an IPL debut in the next couple of seasons; we wish him the best of luck for the same.
