Andre Fletcher Misses 3rd Straight 50; Pakhtoons Win

The 2018 T10 League in UAE seems to be never ever short of entertainment, whether it’s a high-scoring game or a low-scoring one. Regardless of wickets falling or not, you know you’re going to enjoy this ride of 20 overs, with matches ending in less than 2 hours. Tonight was no different as Pakhtoons got their third win in four games this season.

The league is divided into two groups of four teams each and today saw Group A’s Pakhtoons take on Group B’s Bengal Tigers, led by Shahid Afridi and Sam Billings respectively. The veteran Afridi did well on the night, leading his side to their third win in four games, thus going to the top of the table.

We weren’t kidding when we told you this league was full of excitement. Just a few days back, we reported the news of India’s 47-year old Pravin Tambe picking up a hat-trick and the first 5-wicket haul of the T10 league history. Today was another high-octane clash, where the Caribbean boy Andre Fletcher took his team to victory in less than 8 overs.

Andre Fletcher guides Pakhtoons to a victory against Bengal Tigers

Fletcher has been on fire so far in this tournament, performing much better than his career T20 record shows. His stats showed a strike rate of 115 before today’s game kicked off, but he has been striking at 200+ in this tournament thus far. Today, he played another blinder, smashing the likes of Mujeeb Rahman and Morne Morkel all over the ground.

He had two consecutive fifties in this tournament and was literally inches away from the third one. Batting on 47(17)*, Fletcher was all set to bring up a third consecutive T10 fifty when he flicked the 40-year old Zaheer Khan high over mid-wicket. However, it went more high than far and he was caught inches away from the boundary line by Mohammad Nabi, and Fletcher ended up having  good laugh about it.

However, he had already done the job for his team, with just a few balls more required before Pakhtoons got over the line. It was an early night for everyone at the Sharjah International Stadium, and they completed the chase in 7.3 overs, registering a 7-wicket victory. He now has 215 runs in just 4 innings in the 2018 T20 League. Man of the Match: Andre Fletcher.
