There’s always been a lot of scope for cricket to grow in the United States of America. Now, there are multiple leagues running the country, with lots of international stars gracing these events too. Now, there’s the return of the American Premier League (APL) which was initially planned in 2009 but the first APL T20 season took place finally in 2021. Season 2 is here to entertain us now too!
Talking about that first season, it was played between 20-30 Sep 2021 between seven teams representing different countries including Premium Paks, Premium Indians, Premium Bengalees, Premium Windees, Premium Americans, Premium English, and Premium Aussies; All games of APL T20 2021 were played at the Yogi Berra baseball stadium in New Jersey.
APL 2021 had 21 league stage games and eventually, Premium Paks topped the points table, with Premium Indians finishing second and Premium Windees finishing third. It was Premium Paks vs Premium Windees in the APL 2021 final and the latter emerged victorious, securing a 7-wicket victory to go down in history as the first ever American Premiere League winners.

Premium Windees were chasing 157 to win the APL 2021 final and they managed to get there having lost only 3 wickets in the process; they won in the final over and they go into APL 2023 as the defending champions. This season, Premium Afghans replaces Premium Bengalees and Premium Canadians replaces Premium English in the competition. APL Season 2 begins in December 2023 and we’re looking forward to more entertaining games right through the tournament. There are a couple of new teams and 40+ international players joining the league, and Premium Windees are not going to have it easy as they try to defend their title in Season 2.
On the individual front, Raunaq Sharma had a great game in the APL 2021 final and it’s going to be tough to beat his final’s performance for Windees.
