There’s not a single cricketing fan who isn’t looking forward to the IPL 2022 mega auction but before that, the new franchises in Ahmedabad and Lucknow (yet to get franchise names) were asked to pick players from the draft ahead of the auction. And today, we’re going to talk about the players the Ahmedabad franchise has gone on to sign before the IPL 2022 auction.
They’re going to be the least experienced two teams at the IPL 2022 auction, having zero names on their team sheets before yesterday. However, they went on to announce their three picks for the upcoming IPL 2022 season and these included two Indians and one overseas pro. Ahmedabad picks for IPL 2022
1) Hardik Pandya
We knew this one was coming right since Hardik Pandya was released from the Mumbai Indians franchise before the IPL 2022 retention lists were submitted. He’s been in really poor form with both bat and ball but remains one of India’s top all-rounders. Originally from Gujarat, we had a strong feeling that Ahmedabad would target him for IPL 2022 and right enough, he’s been named as captain of the franchise. With fitness woes and not much experience as captain, we’re not sure how smart this decision will turn out to be?!

2) Shubman Gill
This was probably a safer pick for Ahmedabad going into IPL 2022. Shubman Gill is one of the youngsters to watch out for in India, with a little bit of national team experience and a few international games under his belt already. With 478 runs in 17 games in IPL 2021 for the Kolkata Knight Riders, the 22-year old has now got two consecutive IPL seasons with 400+ runs each and has a total of 10 fifties in 58 career IPL games.
3) Rashid Khan
They got a batsman in Shubman Gill, an all-rounder in Hardik Pandya and a bowler in Rashid Khan, who is probably one of the most sought-after T20 cricketers around the world right now. He picked 93 wickets in his IPL career so far, all of which he spent at Sunrisers Hyderabad and now has been given an upgrade. More recently, he got 20 scalps in 11 games at the 2021/22 Big Bash League and that upped his stocks prior to the IPL 2022 auction.
Ahmedabad player salaries
The two new teams have been good so far in picking players, getting a bowler, batter and all-rounder each. However, they will need to continue this strategic dominance going into the IPL 2022 auction. With a combined total of Rs.38 Crore being spent on these three players, Ahmedabad has a remaining purse of Rs.52 Crore going into the mega auction. See their salary breakup here:
