Ahmedabad to Host 2023 ICC World Cup FINAL

We began this year knowing that 2023’s biggest cricketing event would be the 2023 ICC World Cup, and the hype is already beginning. Earlier today, ESPNcricinfo took to their social media accounts to announce the likely start and end dates of the tournament, while also giving a sneak peek into the 2023 CWC schedule.

While everything was not revealed, they mentioned that the tournament is likely to begin on 5th October 2023 and end on 19th October 2023, which means a tournament spanning over 6 weeks. We already knew the competition was going to be held in India and today’s report suggests the venue of the final has been zeroed down in, to be hosted in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Now the world’s biggest international stadium, it only made sense that Ahmedabad would be selected as the venue for the final. When the tournament last played in India in 2011 where India was victorious, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai held the final. This time, the two semi finals will be at iconic venues in Mumbai and the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Reports suggest a total of 48 games in the 2023 CWC schedule and these will be spread across different venues like – Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot and Mumbai. ESPNcricinfo’s tweet read, “The 2023 ODI World Cup is likely to start on October 5, with the final scheduled to be in Ahmedabad”

The 10-team event will be played across 46 days and the pinnacle of this tournament will be hosted in the world’s largest ground in Ahmedabad. BCCI hasn’t specified venues for specific dates or games as yet, so fans will have to keep waiting to know the complete CWC 2023 schedule announcement. See the tweet here:

Usually, ICC announced tournament schedules almost a year in advance if not more. This time, tax exemptions and Visas for the Pakistan team (haven’t played in India since 2013) are what caused the delay in the CWC 2023 schedule announcement. Twitter users already started imagining the roar in the final when 1+ Lakh fans will be jammed into the Ahmedabad stadium.

For those who watched the 2022 T20 World Cup game between India and Pakistan at the MCG and you thought that was deafening, imagine the same situation at the Narendra Modi Stadium if it’s IND vs PAK in the 2023 World Cup final as well. It’s going to be pandemonium, to say and expect the least.
