All You Need To Know About The Kashmir Premier League

In case you aren’t aware already, there’s a new T20 cricket tournament that’s up and coming called the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) and there’s so much controversy brewing around this T20 league right now. First announced and launched in December 2020, the inaugural edition is in 2021 with 6 teams participating in a double round robin format and the top four of them qualifying to the KPL 2021 playoffs.

These teams include 5 representing different regions from the Pakistani administered Azad Kashmir territory, while one being a team representing the overseas Kashmiris. The player drafts and squad selection is already complete for the first edition, and KPL 2021 is all set to commence, scheduled between 6-16 August 2021. The grand finale of the tournament has been titled as the KPL Cup Final.

Accredited by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the tournament has President of Azad Kashmir Masood Khan as Chief Patron of KPL, while former international cricketer Shahid Afridi is the brand ambassador of the T20 league. Because of the name and venue, controversy hasn’t stayed away, and the Indian cricket board is rumoured to have warned all international cricketers not to be associated with KPL 2021.

However, the KPL T20 Cup is set to carry on as planned. Initially, it was supposed to take place in May 2021 but was delayed since PSL 2021 was still not complete. All games will be played at the iconic Muzaffarabad Cricket Stadium which has a capacity of 18,000+ seats but we don’t think we’ll be seeing audiences in the stadium.
