3. KKR vs RCB, 2008 – 140 runs

The day belongs to Brendon McCullum, who staged a mountainous 158 runs of just 73 balls in the inaugural match of IPL’s first edition. KKR’s total of 222/3 was miserably chased by the home side, Royal Challengers. The Rahul Dravid-led side’s 10 out of 11 players were dismissed on a single-digit score, thereby being restricted to 82 runs.

Even though KKR failed to qualify to the knock-out stages in the inaugural season, they started their campaign with a bang with this win of 140 runs. The New Zealand opener McCullum also named the man of the match for his scintillating innings that kick-started the tournament on a high note.

2. RCB vs GL, 2016 – 144 runs

When the two greats of modern-day cricket, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, decide to put on a show, it must be a disaster for the opposition. It was that kind of a day when the two batting greats smashed fours and sixes for fun. The twin centuries from the RCB twins helped them reach a magical score of 248/3 in 20 overs. Virat scored 109 runs off 55 balls, while de Villiers played an incredible knock of 129 runs off just 52 balls with the help of 12 sixes and 10 fours.

The misery of Gujarat Lions even followed in the chase as the Brendon McCullum-led side were all out for 104 runs, losing the clash by 144 runs. AB de Villiers was named the player of the match when everything went as per RCB’s plan.

1. MI vs DD, 2017 – 146 runs

The clash of two big cities, Mumbai and Delhi, in 2017 reached a climax which is excellent for one side and tragic for the other. Mumbai Indians, batting first, posted a big total of 212/3. It was a casual batting day for Mumbai where two of their top-order batsmen- Lendl Simmons and Kieron Pollard, played important knocks, scoring over 60 runs at a strike rate of more than 150.

While chasing this total, the Delhi team got bundled out for just 66 runs, losing the match by 146 runs. A record margin of victory by runs in IPL history. Mumbai spinners Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma picked up 3 wickets each to dismantle the Delhi batting lineup to a mediocre total. Simmons was adjudged the player of the game.

Fans of Mumbai Indians have certainly had a few lucky years on IPL betting sites. Hopefully, Mumbai Indians will be able to keep up their performance in IPL 2022. For more updates on the Indian Premier League and other cricketing news from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
