Just a few hours ago, we’ve had Miss Mexico Andrea Meza beating Miss Brazil and Miss Peru in the top three to end victorious and claim the prestigious Miss Universe crown. The 69th Miss Universe competition was recently held on Sunday, 16th May 2021 night in the USA after going on a hiatus last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
She became the third contestant from USA to win the Miss Universe crown in the history of this competition after Lupita Jones won it in 1991 and Ximena Navarrette won it in 2010. Andrea Meza is now the holder of the crown and title for the 2020 edition, beating Julia Gama from Brazil (2nd), Janick Maceta from Peru (3rd), Adline Castelino from India (4th) and Kimberly Jimenez from Dominican Republic (5th).

The 26-year old beat 73 other women representing various countries and territories from across the world at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, USA. Her successor, Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi, presented her the crown a few hours back. Her bio mentions her as being an activist working on women’s rights, closely working with the Municipal Institute for Women too.
“We live in a society that more and more is more than advanced, and as we advance as a society, we’ve also advanced with stereotypes. Nowadays beauty isn’t only the way we look. For me, beauty radiates not only in our spirit, but in our hearts and the way that we conduct ourselves. Never permit someone to tell you that you’re not valuable,” the winner said in her final statement on changing beauty standards.

Coincidentally, both the previous winners from Mexico were crowned winner of the competition when it was held in the USA itself, with the last two winning it in ceremonies in Las Vegas.
