Getting Candid With FNInformation's Jinx and Yoshi

Thank you for your time! Let’s begin with who the person behind FNInformation is?

Hello! First of all, thanks for having us. There are 2 people behind FNInformation, Jinx and Yoshi. Our ages are 17 and 14 years and we’re from the United Kingdom and United States of America respectively.

Something that almost everyone asks – when did you start playing Fortnite? What has been your favorite season so far?

We started playing Fortnite in 2017 (Jinx) and 2018 (Yoshi)! Jinx’s favourite is Season 7 Chapter 1 because of how unique it was. It brought lots of new additions to the game such as planes, ziplines and the infinity blade (and much more!) Yoshi’s favorite is Season X because of the amazing Battle Pass, cool mechanics, cool weapons, and it was overall very fun!

What inspired you to start datamining and when did you start it?

Jinx: I’ve always followed the leaks for Fortnite since Season 4 Chapter 1 and always wanted to be one since the day I started seeing leaks. Then I met zatheo in late 2018 (Twitter) and he taught me the basics. I didn’t properly start leaking until around October 2019!

Yoshi: I mainly just learned from Jinx and other people on discord. I followed hundreds of accounts and would always send leaks to my friends, so then I met some leakers and got started.

Was it easy or difficult to start with? What has been your biggest challenge when datamining?

Datamining was hard to start with because there are so many things you have to learn to become a decent leaker. Our biggest challenge when datamining is making sure we have every detail correct. If we don’t then people won’t count on us to be a reliable source. Also another challenge is being on-time, and not missing big information.

What are the tools or resources you use for datamining?

Jinx: The tools I use for datamining are FModel, Neonite and API based programs made by close friends! These help me on update nights and throughout the week to provide my followers with the latest information. Yoshi does more of the posting, reposting, graphics, editing, and less of the leaks.

Yoshi: When I do, I’ll use FModel and Nitestats.

Do you work with other dataminers? Do you guys have like a secret club where all dataminers hang out?

We don’t tend to work with other dataminers as we don’t need to. If there’s information that is posted by another dataminer, we’ll repost with credit for finding the information. There isn’t one specific place where all the dataminers hang out. We tend to be in lots of different group chats or discords that are open to everyone so it’s not excluding those who would like to be a part of it.

I’m sure there are times when someone steals your finding / leak. How do you then react to it?

Yes unfortunately sometimes things are stolen from us without any credit and most of the time we ignore it. Sometimes you have to call it out, if it happens a lot.

You have 36k followers on Twitter. Any other social media accounts you use to connect with your followers?

Yes, we’re fortunate to have a decently big following over on Twitter! We’ve started to upload to YouTube for higher quality video leaks as Twitter compresses them and makes the quality bad.

We conclude with this question – What is your goal as a Dataminer?

Jinx: My goal for datamining has always been to provide people with the latest news for Fortnite. I feel like providing accurate information is a must and something I always try to do. Epic Games sometimes make this hard with changing things constantly but for the most part, I am successful in doing this.

Yoshi: My goal is the exact same. Get people the information they need!

Any comments / suggestions for those who want to become dataminers themselves?

We’d would suggest using FModel or FNPedia if you’re starting out leaking as they’re easy to use and understand. There is plenty of tutorials on the internet on how to use these programs. Another thing to remember when starting is not to get down if your tweets don’t get many interactions, this is normal as you’re still starting! It’s very easy to become friends with other dataminers and share your leaks with one and another and that’s the best way to start I would say.

We’d like to thanks Jinx and Yoshi for taking the time out to answer these questions. They’ve managed so much at a very young age and we wish them the best of luck to achieve all the rest they have set out to do. I’m sure we speak for all Fortnite fans when we say that FNInformation has made life so much better for Fortnite fans and gamers across the world!
