PM Modi Tweets on Crypto as Legal Tender in India

There’s been a continuous chatter about the legality of cryptocurrency in India, and there have been a lot of rumours about whether or not it will be legalised in India. And while lawmakers have spoken about a complete blanket ban in the past, nothing concrete has come out of the arguments as yet. Until then, speculation can continue…

PM Modi Tweets on Crypto as Legal Tender in India

Today however, was a bit of a good day (for a few minutes) for crypto traders in the country and abroad, as the Twitter account of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was hacked momentarily to send out a positive tweet for the digital currency in India. The tweet read, “India has officially adopted bitcoin as legal tender.”

It went on to say, “The government has officially bought 500 BTC and is distributing them to all residents of the country.” Now if you’ve been following the crypto scene in India, you’d immediately sniff that there was some foul play involved. It didn’t take too long before the tweet was deleted and the PMO confirmed that Modi’s account was temporarily hacked.

The account was immediately restored and the malicious tweets were deleted. There was a link attached to the tweet that led to a crypto scam, so we hope this little joke didn’t go on to cause any harm to those following the Indian Prime Minister on Twitter. The PMO India Twitter handle tweeted to let us know it was compromised. See below:

“The Twitter handle of PM @narendramodi was very briefly compromised. The matter was escalated to Twitter and the account has been immediately secured. In the brief period that the account was compromised, any Tweet shared must be ignored,” PMO India tweeted. For similar cryptocurrency updates from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
