Squid Game Review: Show Rejected For 10 Years is Bit Predictable

In recent months, Korea seems to be taking over the content and entertainment business, we just don’t know why or how. Whether it’s Korean music or whether it’s the super popular K-Drama shows, it’s all working at this point of time. And that’s one of the main reasons for the massive hype around Korean thriller show called Squid Game which released on 17 September 2021 in India and worldwide.

Squid Game Review: Show Rejected For 10 Years is Bit Predictable

Another reason for the massive hype is that not many shows had taken such an approach in the past, where you play traditional kids’ games and build a dramatic and barbaric version around it. And of course, the biggest hype was because it apparently took 10+ years for the maker to actually get it out to the audience. Yes, Squid Game was rejected for 10 years by content house before its debut on Netflix.

I binge watched all 9 episodes of this show in the original Korean language with my English subtitles on and while I loved the first couple of episodes, the show gets a tad bit predictable as we moved into the next few episodes. Though their gaming arena seemed to be completely under surveillance with a foolproof plan and system in place, an intruder (the policeman) managed to stay undetected for so long.

Apart from that, the heroes of the show always managed to get through to the next round and next game, even though they weren’t the smartest or strongest or honestly, even the most capable to be the last man standing. It couldn’t have been coincidences each time and eventually, we knew the good guys were going to emerge victorious at some point.

Squid Game Season 2?

The writer and director of the show was the same and he obviously wasn’t thinking of a Season 2 while making the show because he eliminated all the bad guys, while just one hero remained as well. No stories were left unfinished and now because of the success of the show worldwide, he’s going to be under pressure to deliver Squid Game Season 2. Clearly, we could be in for another predictable season!

“If I do get to do one — one would be the story of the Frontman [a former cop who now oversees the game]. I think the issue with police officers is not just an issue in Korea. I see it on the global news. This was an issue that I wanted to raise. Maybe in season two I can talk about this more,” said Squid Game writer and director, Hwang Dong-hyuk about the possibility of Season 2.
