Hotstar The Night Manager (Part 1) - Ending Explained

Disney+ Hotstar has been advertising a new web-series since a couple of weeks now and finally, The Night Manager release date has come. The 4-episode series released on Hotstar on 17th Feb 2023 and everyone’s super excited for it mainly because of its star cast in Anil Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aditya Roy Kapoor, and others.

Now what viewers were surprised to know is that there were only 4 episodes in The Night Manager (Part 1) on Hotstar. But it’s not the end as Part 2 is also scheduled to release later this year. The show is an adaptation of a book as well as an English series with the same name. Here, we’re going to take you through The Night Manager ending explained from Hotstar Originals.

The Night Manager (Part 1) plot

The show is about a hotel night manager called Shaan Sengupta (Aditya Roy Kapoor). He comes with a Navy background but encounters some high-profile criminals while doing his night manager job in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Because of his involvement, he tried to save a girl because of humanity and not patriotism, despite warnings to stay away from the dealings of these ‘businessmen/industrialists’.

Despite his best efforts, Shaan wasn’t able to save the girl and she was killed in front of his eyes. Fast forward to two years later where he moves back to Shimla in India and is doing another job as a night manager, where he encounters this industrialist called Shelly Rungta (Anil Kapoor) who was the reason for the death of the girl he couldn’t save in Dhaka.

Knowing Rungta is powerful and dangerous, Shaan couldn’t help himself but get involved again. He contacted Lipika Sikia Rao (Tillotama Shome) from RAW and together, they planned an undercover operation to bring down Rungta. This involved Shaan becoming a trusted aide of the businessman, getting into his close circle, and then getting enough evidence to bring him down.

The plot moves to Sri Lanka where Shaan is now staying in their estate and has access to many of their dealing, which he passes on to Lipika as and when he gets the chance. However, things get complicated when we get to know that there’s corruption within the RAW setup, and when Shaan gets close to Shelly’s girlfriend, Kaveri (played by Sobhita Dhulipala).

The Night Manager ending explained

The 4 episodes of Part 1 ends on a cliffhanger note where Shaan is beginning to be doubted by Shelly’s aide Brij Pal, but Lipika manages to get him put away and Shaan is now a business CEO of one of Shelly’s companies. He accepts the offer and shakes Shelly’s hand. On the other and, his girlfriend Kaveri catches him exploring Shelly’s private office, which almost blew his cover.

However, he managed to convince Kaveri that he was there to search for his passport, and not snoop around. He also tells Kaveri that Shelly isn’t who she thinks he is, and is in fact involved in illegal arms dealings. She continues the act with Shelly but we believe that is the beginning of the end of their relationship, as trailers to The Night Manager Part 2 show intimate scenes between Kaveri and Shaan.

On the other hand, RAW makes their case stronger as they find all needed information to bring down Rungta, including the fact that he’s almost bankrupt and is relying heavily on a deal with an oil heavyweight, Bargati. The deal falls through at the end of the fourth episode but Lipika and her team is now in trouble, as the head of the department suspects there’s unauthorised work happening.

Lipika finds that Rungta has an Indian partner called ‘Indradhanush’ who is used regularly in their communication. They show her finding out who the person is but we suspect that it’s Mitter (RAW boss) as he was seen threatening Lipika’s superior, also sending raids to both of their respective homes.
