Decoupled Season 1 – Ending Explained

If you’ve reached this article, you’ve surely watched the latest Netflix original digital series called ‘Decoupled‘ which is a Hindi, comedy show starring R Madhavan (Arya Iyer) and Surveen Chawla (Shruti Iyer) in leading roles. But we’re not here to give you an in-depth Decoupled review but will instead explain the ending of Decoupled Season 1. Before that, here’s a small brief description of the characters.

Decoupled characters

One is a misanthropic writer in Arya who is competing against Chetan Bhagat but he tends to say things to people what most others would only think in their minds. On the other hand is his wife Shruti who is a startup founder focussed on her career. She was madly in love with her husband in the earlier days but now, many years later, they barely communicate anymore.

Decoupled Season 1 ending explained

The entire series builds up towards the couple’s decoupling party, which they throw in Goa. At many times during the season, you’ll think that they’re probably going to cancel the divorce and end up together but not, it’s not one of those stories. They completed the decoupling ceremony and party in front of their daughter Rohini and other family and friends, and even found other potential partners as well.

The producers of the series have explored the idea of an ‘Open Marriage’ and how this concept works. Arya and Shruti spoke about getting divorced but continuing to live in the same house for their daughter, while seeing other partners too. However, what Shruti didn’t tell Arya is that she accepted a job offer from her romantic interest Mr. Lee which involves relocating to London.

Now while the couple often discusses about being best friends and how they talk to each other about everything, Shruti never mentioned her plans of accepting the offer and moving to London, that too with the daughter. And while they were filming a short script for director Mayank (who was making content to sell to Netflix), the news slipped out from Chetan Bhagat to Arya.

Arya just blankly looks at Shruti and the camera pans out. One would imagine he’s full of anger at the thought of his wife moving out and also taking their daughter along. The idea of her not telling him this would’ve enraged him further but that’s how Decoupled Season 1 ended without giving us an idea of whether Arya accepted the news well or whether he went out on a fit of rage, breaking things!

In the way it ended, we’re given a clear idea that there will be a Decoupled Season 2. However, for such a script, the message has been passed to the viewers and a whole new plot will have to be scripted for Season 2. Considering they’ve got an 8.1 rating on IMDb, we can expect the series to continue on Netflix. For similar entertainment stories from India and around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
