RIP: Kenny Rogers Death
When anyone would think of classical country music over the last few decades, they would think of Kenny Rogers. Topping the pop and country music charts during the 1970’s and 1980’s are no small achievements, neither is winning 3 Grammy Awards. But alas, we will no longer be able to hear this country music legend sing us a melody.
The vocalist is said to have died of natural causes a few hours ago at the age of 81 years. As per a family representative, Rogers “passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family.” Because of all the havoc being created by the COVID-19 emergency, the family will have a quiet funeral service and possibly a memorial later when things get back to normal.
The Gambler, Lucille, What Condition my Condition is in, Islands in the Stream, and Coward Of The County were some of his major hits and he had announced his farewell tour in 2015 which went on all the way until December 2017. It was in April 2018 that he gave a public statement that he would have to cancel all remaining tour dates because of certain ‘health challenges’.
“I didn’t want to take forever to retire. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to say farewell to the fans over the course of the past two years on ‘The Gambler’s Last Deal’ tour. I could never properly thank them for the encouragement and support they’ve given me throughout my career and the happiness I’ve experienced as a result of that,” he said in that statement.
Apart from his Grammy victories, his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame as well as owning six CMA Awards were some of his biggest achievements till date, while The Gambler also became the unofficial World Cup anthem for the England Rugby Team once. The musical world will mourn a great loss today and he will leave behind 5 kids that he got across five different marriages. Rest in Peace, Legend!
