First awarded 92 years ago in 1929, The Academy Awards have always been a very vital part of the entertainment and film-making industry, because they recognize the best work put in each year from across the world. Also known as The Oscars, the annual event is something people look forward to each year and Oscars 2021 was no different, hosted on Sunday, 25th April 2021 at the Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.
While there were plenty major highlights at the 2021 Oscar Awards, one that was the biggest highlight (as it usually is) was the award for Best Actor category, which went out to the 83-year old actor Anthony Hopkins. While he not only took home the best award of the night, he also broke a record for becoming the oldest actor (male or female) to win an Oscar, beating Christopher Plummer who was 82 years old when he won for Beginners in 2012.

Why did Anthony Hopkins win Best Actor?
Now while he has been around since decades, there was an online report which spoke about how Anthony Hopkins delivered his best performance in The Father, playing the role of a man suffering from dementia. He tries to figure out his reality daily and if you watch the film, you’ll know there was no doubt about Hopkins getting at least a nomination in the Best Actor category.
It’s not very often that you can play the best role of your life while in your eighties and that’s exactly what Hopkins did, which gave him an edge over many others in this category, especially the late Chadwick Boseman. The Father is a story told from Hopkins’ perspective and his empathetic performance in the film is impossible to let go off and once you watch it, you’ll agree with us about him deserving this award!
In the ‘In Memoriam’ section of the 93rd Oscar Awards, Indian actor Irrfan Khan was honoured along with and costume designer Bhanu Athaiya, both passing away in 2020. For more updates from the world of entertainment, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com…
