Hello, fellow stargazers and sky lovers. Remember the super moon we’ve all been adoring over the last few appearances? Well, we’ve got an even better treat coming up for you as a phenomenon called the ‘Super Pink Moon‘ will now be visible on the night of 7th April 2020 in India, which will sure excite one and all.
What is Super Pink Moon?
For those of you who don’t know (and that may be most of you), the Super Pink Moon is a phenomenon when the moon comes closest to the Earth, which is an approximate distance of 356,907 km away. Astronomers called this the perigean full moon and the name for this April full moon comes from Native American culture and has no indicator to what colour the moon will be.
Sorry to disappoint you, but the moon won’t literally be pink in colour. However, it’s going to be up close and personal with us and you can see it in India, only if you have an east-facing window, because all of us are going to be at home considering the ongoing 21-day lockdown in the country because of COVID-19.
Don’t miss the Super Pink Moon
Regardless of colour and how you’ll be able to see it, the moon is expected to be super big on 7th April 2020 and the best time to see it will be before moonrise early evening or at moonset just before dawn. The moon is expected to be around 30% larger than what it would be on any other given night and I wouldn’t miss this spectacular sight for anything!
In India, the ideal time to see the moon will be early hours of the morning on 8th April, preferably around 4am. However, the moon will peak in illumination in India at around 8:02am, and that may just not be the best time for viewers in our country.
