A low budget. A simple and inexperienced cast. Limited venues for the shoot. But a good story and tale told well. That’s what was put in to making The Lift Boy which was released initially on 18th January 2019 but the movie failed to make its impact on the Box Office. In fact, like millions of others around the country, we didn’t hear about this movie at all and hadn’t read any Lift Boy movie review either.
This was however only until the movie was brought on to be streamed on Netflix. The decision was made a couple of weeks ago but The Lift Boy finally released on Netflix globally on 27th April. Not quite appealing with its posters, it makes up with its story and all those who have watched it will truly agree with me.
Pictured in and around Bandra in Mumbai, this movie will resonate with quite a few of you Bandra boys and girls, with shots of the Carter Road promenade as well as the ever-popular Yacht restro-bar on Bandra’s Hill Road. It’s about the life of a 24-year old who is busy lazying around and this latest job as a lift boy is about to change his life completely.

It was the directorial debut of Jonathan Augustin and we must say, he’s done a brilliant job. The Lift Boy cast includes Moin Khan as Raju Tawade and Nyla Masood as Maureen Kapoor. Don’t miss a good supporting role by Aneesha Shah who plays Princess Kapoor in Lift Boy Netflix, and Aneesha is a personal friend of Read Scoops, having done an exclusive interview with us a couple of years ago.

Coming to the title of the question. What made Netflix bring on the film a year and a half after it was produced? The filmmakers sold the rights of the film to Netflix on 3rd April 2020 and it first premiered on 27th April. Since then, we caught up with director Jonathan Augustin to speak about the entire journey of The Lift Boy which you can read here.
